Our Story
Founded in 2016, the Cambridge Youth Gamelan provides high quality music instruction in traditional Balinese gamelan music and dance.
Our Mission
Cambridge Youth Gamelan (Gamelan Anak Tika) teaches youth about traditional gamelan music and dance of Bali, Indonesia through hands-on learning experiences delivered by experienced instructors. Our group is open to students in Grades 2 - 12 regardless of prior musical experience. We are an inclusive community of eager learners and we love welcoming new members to our group.
We are proudly supported by MIT (Music & Theater Arts), local grants, and private donors in the Cambridge community and beyond.
“The group dynamic and camaraderie, the memorization of the music, and the introduction to a different tonal system and rhythmic understanding has been incredibly beneficial for [my daughter]. As she learns new skills every session, her self-assurance grows. Every week, she looks forward to Wednesday—gamelan day!”

Thank you Mass. Cultural Council!
We are proud to announce that we have received a Cultural Sector Recovery Grant from the Mass Cultural Council. This grant was made possible through a one-time pandemic recovery appropriation secured by Mass Cultural Council's partners in the Legislature. This grant will help the Cambridge Youth Gamelan support operations and programming budget for FY 23 - 24, which was adversely affected by the COVID-19 pandemic. We cannot thank the Mass Cultural Council - as well as the Massachusetts State Legislature - enough for their support of the Massachusetts Arts & Culture sector!
